What’s New:

TweeVR mode! One of the most requested features has finally been released. TweeVR mode allows you to “wind the tweet clock back” to replay Tweets in “real-time” while watching a recorded show! For example, if you record “The Voice” on your PVR, then watch it a couple of hours or days later, simply enter the time the show originally aired into Tweex using the handy time travel control panel. Now, Tweex will play back the tweets as though you’re watching the show live! And of course, choosing “The Voice” in our “What’s Hot” list will automatically show you the best # and @ tags to use for your show! TweeVR mode is great for any show you’ve PVR’d, especially sports events. Its great for avoiding spoilers.

Additional Timelines: We’ve added the rest of the standard Twitter timelines: My Tweets, Favorites, @Mentions, Retweets, Lists, etc.

Improved Filtering: We’ve improved on the filtering added in Tweex 1.1. Use Filtering by clicking on the downward pointing arrows icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Filtering gets rid of all the short, annoying, useless “Me Too” tweets, but makes sure to retain the tweets you really want to see.

Conversation View: Now, easily view a whole Twitter conversation. Click on the “Conversation Bubble” to see all the tweets you’re reading in order. Don’t get left out of the conversation!

URL Shortening: Easily shorten URL’s in your tweets

Improved Profile View adds features, and full size profile image view.

To begin, Tweex is an iPad app that is designed specifically for tweeting during LIVE TV. The super smart tech geeks that built the app and the socially savvy twitter users that helped design the app thought about everything that the ultimate twitter app for TV would have. They took all their pet peeves and cool ideas on using twitter while watching TV and created Tweex to eliminate the tediousness and leverage the coolness. So don’t fumble with other twitter clients when watching the Oscars tonight when you can use Tweex to:

1. See what people are saying about the show and filter out lame tweets (“Cool”, “I love the Oscars”) and excessive RTs:

2. Easily tweet about the Oscars: (All you have to do is tap on a tag to add it to your tweet!)

3. Easily identify the most popular tweets.

Oh and this is not all Tweex has to offer…there are tons more cool features that will take your Oscars twitter experience from mild to smokin’ hot. If you’re interested in learning more check out this video that shows you exactly what the app does.

See you tonight in the Oscar Twitter Stream! If you think you want to give Tweex a try you can download it for free in the app store!

Captain Obvious Changes and Brand Spankin’ New Features:

1. We listened, and we’ve trashed the old color scheme! The new color scheme is less offensive to the retina.

2.We’ve added an AMAZING new feature – Tweet filtering! Automatically get rid of annoying tweets like “me too” or “I love this show” or endless chains of Retweets of the same tweet. The arrow icon lets you turn tweet filtering on or off.

3. Ads in the lite version have been removed from the tweet stream and placed in a dedicated Ad space at the bottom of the screen. (Of course you could always upgrade and get rid of the ads entirely!)

4. The ability to search Twitter Trending Topics by region has been added. This is only available for the upgraded version (wink* wink* nudge* nudge).

5. When you do a search (go to a show, trending topic or type in a search), the results highlight and show the most popular tweets, as defined by Twitter, at the top. Tweex will keep you in the know!

The Sexy Subtleties:

1. Scrolling speed and smoothness has been improved. It’s just like buttah.

2. Tweet view automatically refreshes when changes have been made to the tag rack, and the tweets you were reading are still in view.

3. The tag rack has been enlarged to show more tags.

4. Verified/Private icons are now shown for appropriate accounts. Let’s be honest, you gotta make sure you’re talking to the real Justin Bieber.

5. #Tags are now clickable in a user profile view and vice versa.

6. We’ve added info in the title bar to show the topic being followed.

7. “What’s Hot” and Trending Topics refresh more frequently. We don’t want you to get left behind.

8. Insertion of tags when writing a tweet is way smarter.

9. We’ve raised our standards for “What’s Hot” so the shows that are listed there are truly the most watched shows and not just a list.

We put the boots to a few issues from 1.0:

1. The random Retweet mishaps of 1.0 are now a thing of the past. RT is functioning exactly as it should. No more WTF replies from your followers!

2. Topic tree has been flattened with the Twitter topics now in the root so you don’t have to tap yourself into oblivion getting to your timeline.

3. Categories with no shows under them do not show up. Duh!

If we just look at the Twitter traffic from the Super Bowl XLIV, which had 351, 544 tweets caused by the Saints, and 179, 360 caused by the Colts there were lot of people watching and sharing their Super Bowl experiences via twitter. Whether they were in the stands, on their sofa, or at the pub Twitter connected all these viewers and allowed them to share the experience and excitement of the Super Bowl game.

It’s not just sports that is getting this type of Twitter attention either. Shows like, Saturday Night Live, Big Brother, Jersey Shore, True Blood, Glee, American Idol and Lost are some of the most influential shows on Twitter. There are 90 Million Tweets per day and according to Robin Sloan, a good percentage are TV related. This type of social viewing is growing in momentum and, according to Sladde, appears to be what viewers and Twitter users are looking for. After all, as Fast Company remarks, ”If you’re not watching live — and reading the comments from friends, your favorite celebrities, and even total strangers via Twitter — you’re missing half the show.”

Tweex is specifically designed to give iPad users an easy way to follow and contribute to their favorite shows or events so that they don’t have to miss half the show. What Tweex does is apply an extra layer over Twitter to tie twitter users into their favorite shows or events. The crowd-sourced lists of shows under What’s On Now and What’s Hot, along with the relevant #tags and important @users in the tag rack, present users with a simplified way to follow and contribute to conversations about their show. Viewers no longer have to remember all the #tags for their shows when searching or tweeting; it’s really as simple as tapping on a #tag or @user to add them into a tweet. What Tweex really does is puts the viewer into a “global living room” where they can easily share their experience with others.

As Twitter users continue to connect with each other over TV programs and events, one must wonder how these networks will leverage twitter and their engaged audiences. I think Sloan had it correct in his talk at GigaOM’s NewTeeVee Live conference that Synchronous Show Tweeting, Social Viewing and New Kinds of Content are things that would make these events more powerful. With Tweex, iPad users will be able to plug-in to these conversation much easier and actually cash-in on the Twitter initiatives presented by their favorite programs, characters, actors, athletes, celebrities, and other twitter users.

Ok so we are about to release Tweex into BETA and I am super excited. Why, you might ask? Well, this app is going to change the way we tweet on our iPads!

While watching our favorite TV shows and sporting events or participating in conferences we currently have to do the painful task of performing several searches for the show or event, followed by another search for a series of #tag references, then hoping that we can follow the event stream and remember all the tags. Oh, and let’s not forget the hassle of wanting to follow any of the key actors, athletes or keynote speakers during the show! Well fret no longer fellow tweeps…Tweex is here to save the day! (Insert cheesy announcement horns here)

With Tweex, you are presented with a What’s On Now list. This is an up-to-the-second list of TV Shows, Sports Events, and Conferences. All you do is click on the show, event or conference you are interested in and you’re instantly connected to the appropriate twitter stream. I know…awesome right!

Well wait, there’s more…

When you are enjoying the stream of precious tweets, Tweex makes it super easy to join the conversation. A special TV Tweet Panel holds all the #tags and @user keywords relevant to your show. So type your tweet, and just click on any of the #tags or @users you want to add and then send. If you notice there is a person or a #tag you want to include in the search terms, Tweex gives you the power to do it!

I could go on and on about all the great features of Tweex, but then what would I write in my next blog entry? Stay tuned…
